Navy Midshipman Shannon K. Britt of Huntington Beach completed six weeks

of training at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. This training was

an orientation for a four-year training program for naval or Marine Corps

officers. Britt, a 1999 Marina High School graduate is the daughter of

Huntington Beach residents Robert T. and Lyn M. Britt ... Jon Jay Berg of

Huntington Beach received his degree in business administration from the

University of Wisconsin at Platteville ... Fountain Valley class of 1995

graduate Gregory S. Osborne completed his training exercise with an

international naval program. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Osborne was

stationed on the assault ship USS Bataan, a ship of the USS John F.

Kennedy Battle Group. Osborne and his shipmates participated in Exercise

Bright Star ‘99, which is the 11th exercise in a series that began in

1980. After completing the assignment, Osborne and his shipmates had the

opportunity to visit Marmaris, Turkey ... Kimiko Bacon of Fountain Valley

was selected to be a member of the University Singers of Valparaiso

University. Bacon, a graduate of Fountain Valley High School, is a

sophomore enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences ... Law professor

Maryann Jones of Huntington Beach has been appointed dean of academic

affairs at Western State University College of Law, where she has taught

since 1989 ... Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Deborah D. Maitrejean will

sail from San Diego on the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis this

month. The 26-year-old daughter of Frank and Jan Holtzman of Huntington

Beach has been deployed as part of usual peacetime naval operations.

Maitrejean, an electrician, services and repairs the ship’s electrical

systems ... Marine Pfc. Lisandro Duenas of Fountain Valley has completed

basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Duenas

graduated from Los Amigos High School in 1999 ... Rabbi Stephen J.

Einstein of Congregation B’nai Tzedek in Fountain Valley has been

installed as the second vice president of the Pacific Assn. of Reform

Rabbis at its annual convention in Palm Springs ... Army National Guard

Pfc. Jose A. Ochoa of Fountain Valley graduated from basic military

training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. ... Andrew Larry Grant of

Huntington Beach was elected vice president of transmission at Southern

California Edison. In his new position, Grant will manage the company’s

transmission infrastructure, which includes 12,000 miles of high-voltage

lines and more than 900 electrical substations located across the

utility’s 50,000-mile service area ... The following students were named

on the dean’s list at UC Santa Barbara: Kelly Blore and Davia Hayward

from Fountain Valley; and Jeffrey Johnson, Anjanette Perlis, James

Guard Spec. Brian P. O’Bannon graduated from basic military training at

Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo. He is the son of Billy and Terisita

O’Bannon of Fountain Valley. In 1995, he graduated from Ocean View High

School ... Army Pvt. Jose L. Gonzales graduated from One Station Unit

Training at Fort Knox in Kentucky, which consists of basic military

training and advanced individual training. He is the son of Ana Vasquez

of Huntington Beach ... Literacy Volunteers of America-Huntington Valley

announced the graduation of six new literacy tutors: Blake Berresford,

Jeanne Criss, Pauline Feldman, Charles Jereb, Virginia Treal and Natalie

Van Dorren, all of Huntington Beach. Each new tutor will help an adult

improve his or her reading and writing skills ... Army Pvt. Jessica L.

Jamison is at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo., completing basic

military training. Jamison is the daughter of Cecilia Jamison of

Huntington Beach ...Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Christopher D.

Cardozo graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base

in San Antonio, Texas. Cardozo is the son of Susan G. and Dennis J.

Cardozo of Huntington Beach ...Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Christopher

P. Z. Stanley received an associate’s degree in applied science from the

Community College of the Air Force. Stanley received a degree in

personnel administration. He is a first sergeant assigned to the 74th

Medical Operations Squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton,

Ohio. Stanley is the son of Marione Chalmers of Huntington Beach ... Army

Pfc. James M. Schumacher has deployed to the Joint Readiness Training

Center at Fort Polk, Leesville, La., as part of a battalion deployment

from Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. The soldiers are part of the

172nd Infantry Brigade (Separate) and are assigned to various subordinate

units of the 4th Battalion, 11th Field Artillery at Fort Wainwright.

Schumacher, a cannoneer, is the son of Galen E. Schumacher of Huntington

Beach ... Harriet Ouellette, a senior secretary in Orange Coast College’s

Literature and Languages Division, has been named the college’s

Classified Staff Member of the Year for 1999-2000. Nine other staff

members were nominated by their colleagues for the award. The Huntington

Beach resident will be honored March 14, during a presentation in the

college’s Student Center Lounge. A member of OCC’s staff for 15 years,

Ouellette is the 10th recipient of this award ...
