Jim De Boom -- COMMUNITY & CLUBS
SEARCH FOR TALENT: Wanna sing? Dance? Play your clarinet or maybe
do a few minutes of stand-up comedy? If you’re between the ages of 6 and
18, the annual Search for Talent, sponsored by the Exchange Club of
Newport Harbor, is giving you a chance to share your talents. Contestants
will compete in one of three age groups. The winners of each will receive
a handsome plaque and will be invited to compete at the next level,
ultimately for $1,000. The contest will take place at the Oasis Senior
Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 3. Deadline for entries is
Tuesday so call Search for Talent chairman Deane Bottorf at (949)
673-8701 today!
MOVIE BENEFIT: “Where the Heat Is,” a film starring Sally Field,
Ashley Judd and Stockard Channing, will be shown at the Exchange Club of
Newport Harbor Movie Benefit on Thursday, April 27. The event will
benefit the Child Abuse Center of Orange County. The evening includes a
“mini taste” with 14 restaurants providing food, in addition to the
preview showing of the movie at Edwards Lido. Tickets are $40 for general
admission and $60 for reserved seating, and are available from Exchange
Club members, said Duncan Forgey, benefit chairman. It’s a fun evening,
they have a great film appropriate for the benefit and it will sell out
early. For tickets or more information about the benefit, contact Forgey
at (949) 717-5111.
25th ANNIVERSARY HOSTS NEEDED: Irrelevant Week, celebrating its
25th anniversary this June, is looking for businesses, clubs and
community groups to host honorees from the first 24 years. Paul Salata,
founder of the week, said hosts would make transportation arrangements
for the former Mr. Irrelevant, provide housing and coordinate their
schedule during Irrelevant Week XXV, June 19-23. For more information,
contact the Irrelevant Week Headquarters at (949) 263-0727.
