Men’s Basketball: OCC hammered by Cypress

CYPRESS - Cypress College shot an astounding 68% from the field in
the second half to lead the Chargers to a 109-76 win over Orange Coast in
Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball action Wednesday night.
The Pirates (13-11, 2-7 in conference) actually led, 41-40 after the
first half, before being outscored, 69-35, in the second half on 29 of 38
shooting from Cypress.
David Castleton led the Bucs with 23 points, while Dave Elliott chipped
in with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Towan Oliver led the Chargers (13-13, 6-3) with 25 points and 11
rebounds, while Meko Parker added 21 points.
Rebounding hurt the Pirates, as Cypress held a 46-32 edge on the boards.
The Chargers were equally hot from three-point land, hitting 11 of 20
from behind the arc.
Jeff Beeler and Chad Hagedorn each contributed with 10 points for OCC.
Other top scorers for Cypress include Adam Rachlin with 14 points and
Brandon Erquhart with 12 points. The Pirates’ leading assists man was Duc
Nguyen with six.
OCC has lost seven of its last eight conference games and will take on
Fullerton at home Friday at 7:30 p.m.
