Ansel is a Bronco
Marina High’s M.J. Ansel, the 1999 Sunset League Offensive Lineman
of the Year, verbally committed to Boise State University last weekend,
his father, Mike Ansel, said.
M.J. Ansel paid a visit to the Boise campus over the weekend, and
immediately was impressed with the school and its football program.
Ansel, who also was named All-CIF Division I and first team All-Orange
County (Times and Register) as a senior, served as team captain the past
two years, and was an all-league selection as a junior, also had several
offers from other schools, including Utah State, Army, and Portland
State.
Ansel also is known for his academic excellence. He was a scholar athlete
all four years at Marina, carries a 3.2 GPA, and scored 1,200 on the SAT.
Boise State capped a 10-3 season in 1999 by winning the Big West
Conference title and beating Louisville in the Humanitarian Bowl.
The Broncos will play one more year in the Big West before joining the
Western Athletic Conference in 2001.
