Women’s basketball: Lions roll past Azusa Pacific
COSTA MESA - In a battle for first place in the Golden State
Athletic Conference, Vanguard University used a balanced attack and held
off Azusa Pacific, 85-76, Tuesday night in women’s basketball action.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Lions, ranked No. 13
in the NAIA.
The win puts the Lions (19-4, 8-2 in conference) a game up on the Cougars
(16-5, 7-3).
Kelly Boeke and Becki Huddle each had 16 points, while Deborah Candelaria
added 12 for Vanguard.
The Lions led by as many as 19 points before Azusa cut the lead to 81-74
with 1:13 left to play.
Allison Box led the Cougars with 25 points, while Jennifer Barbone added
24.
