Your recent attack on [Huntington Beach] Mayor Dave Garofalo was, as

usual, unfounded, cheap and sleazy. Garofalo has done public service for

this community for the entire 30 years he has lived here.

Garofalo has helped start two education foundations, a cancer research

board, served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the

annual leukemia drive, and been on the board and served as chairman of

the Heart Ball.

He has been the Fourth of July chairman. He has chaired the annual Boys &

Girls Club banquet for two years ... [and served as a] board member of

the Orange County Council-Boy Scouts of America, etc.

What he touches turns to gold for others. That’s what Mayor Dave Garofalo

is all about. His business has taken him around the world. ... He helped

start a community bank and a community newspaper. He takes every phone

call and answers every legitimate plea for help.

Dave Garofalo is also human. He has won big and lost big. He has invested

and lost. He has invested and won. At least he is out there at risk like

the rest of us, not hiding behind some word printed on newsprint. There

is a difference between a local paper thinking they are the community

watchdog and really being the neighborhood bulldog.

Mayor Dave Garofalo is one of the best things that has ever happened to

this community. Watch him -- with help from this council, he will help

change the world.
