Vanguard women win
COSTA MESA - Kelly Boeke’s strong first-half play (15 points)
helped Vanguard University’s women’s basketball team to a 39-31 halftime
lead and the Lions held on to post a 72-67 Golden State Athletic
Conference victory Tuesday night on the Vanguard campus.
Christian Heritage, down by as many as 13, rallied to within 69-67
with 17 seconds left, but Boeke’s two free throws with five seconds left
sealed the win for the Lions.
Sarah Cisneros and Andrea Hamilton each had a double-double for
Christian Heritage, which fell to 12-8 overall, 4-4 in the GSAC.
Boeke finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Becki Huddle of
Vanguard had 16 points and teammate Laura Lee had seven boards.
The victory keeps Vanguard in at least a tie for first place in the
GSAC with a 17-4, 6-2 mark.
