IN BRIEF
The Orange County Fair & Exposition Center’s three-acre Centennial Farm
has two new residents -- Clydesdales Clyde and Izzy.
The two horses were donated to the farm by Parnell Ranch of Auburn,
Calif. The horses will become part of a continuing educational exhibit of
farm animals. Their official new home on the farm will be the Millennium
Barn, expected to open in June.
Clyde weighs 1,600 pounds and has white markings. The 8-year-old gelding
measures 73 inches from the top of his shoulders to the ground.
Izzy, a 13-year-old mare, weighs approximately 1,800 pounds and stands 69
inches tall. She is a black-and-white Shire.
Both horses are expected to live about 25 years.
Draft horses eat about 1% of their body weight daily in grain and hay.
Grains used at the Centennial Farm are donated by Star Milling Co.
Centennial Farm hosts guided school tours from September to May and is
open to the public for self-guided tours from 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays, and
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends.
Admission and parking are free.
