A workshop to inform business owners of the West Side Specific Plan will

take place at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall. Business owners are

encouraged to attend to voice their concerns and opinions before the plan

is completed.

The idea is to create long-range strategic plans “to improve and enhance

conditions in the southwest area of the community,” according to the

city’s planning department. This may include rezoning the land -- an idea

that has worried many business owners.

Business owners have expressed concern about possibly being forced to

relocate their businesses as support grows to make the West Side more

resident-friendly. In August, residents who attended a meeting said they

supported rezoning the bluffs area for upscale homes and replacing heavy

industrial uses with those involving research and development.

The city accidentally did not invite 1,600 business and property owners

to a community forum on the West Side Specific Plan in September.
