ISSUE: Early Entry Kindergarten Program

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The board of trustees approved the Early Entry Kindergarten

Program for the 1999-2000 school year.

For the past 11 years, the Fountain Valley School District has offered

the program for students who are not eligible to enter kindergarten in

September because their 5th birthday falls after Dec. 2.

Parents who decide that their children are not developmentally ready to

begin school in September and would benefit from an expanded kindergarten

experience have also utilized the program.

ISSUE: Personnel commissioners

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The board approved the California School Employees Association

recommendation to reappoint Commissioner Rabbi Steven Einstein to the

district’s personnel board.

His new three-year term will begin Dec. 1, when his current term ends.

ISSUE: Teacher training

Vote: 5-0

Summary: The district provides training in Project Guided Language

Acquisition Design (GLAD) for teachers in the Magnolia School District.

The district will conduct Project GLAD between October 1999 and May 2000

at a total rate not to exceed $43,000.

ISSUE: Teacher recognition

Vote: none

Summary: The district recognized 36 teachers from the district who

completed certification in both the Staff Development in Specially

Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English, and in English

Language Development.

Marcia Brechtel, one of two certified trainers in Orange County,

volunteered to train the teachers.
