Proceedings in the judicial misconduct case of Susanne Shaw were not

without a few chuckles.

Shaw, who presides over the felony calendar at Harbor Justice Center in

Newport Beach, was direct and vociferous when cross-examined by

prosecutors from the state’s Judicial Performance Commission, the agency

investigating Shaw’s alleged improprieties.

When asked if she considers her voice too loud, Shaw replied:

“I was the only cheerleader at Laguna Beach High School who didn’t need a

megaphone,” she cracked.

Still turning heads

As Anna Pedersen celebrated her 100th birthday at Casa Bella Apartments

on Sunday, her neighbors related their favorite tidbits about her.

“I still hit on her every day,” said her neighbor, Marshall. “She never

even gets mad -- she just says, ‘maybe tomorrow.’ ”

Apparently some things never change.
