We at Costa Mesa High School would like to take this opportunity to

congratulate Corona del Mar High School football players, staff and

administration for their show of sportsmanship and valor this past week.

We battled this past week in three games, each with league championship

implications. All three games were clean, hard-hitting and exciting

contests.

While taunting and trash talking may be the order of the day in high

school sports, it is not at Corona del Mar High School. We would like to

commend (varsity) Coach Dick Freeman, his coaching staff, and the entire

athletic department for the way in which they handled themselves in all

games.

While all the games were intense and hard-fought, after the games, the

Corona del Mar players and coaches were humble in victory and gracious in

defeat. Athletic Director Jerry Jelnick was the first to come across the

field to congratulate us and was a great example to his school and

athletic program.

Sometimes, the actions of a few can tarnish a well-played, hard-fought

game, but this was not the case. We at Costa Mesa High School have the

utmost respect for Corona del Mar High School’s players, coaches and

administration for their outstanding display of sportsmanship. We look

forward to many years of hard-fought competitive games against a

respected and admired opponent. This is the way high school athletics

should be. Thank you to Corona del Mar High School for a wonderful

experience and welcome to the Pacific Coast League.

Sincerely,

Andy Hernandez, Costa Mesa High principal

Kirk Bauermeister, Costa Mesa High boys athletic director
