AYSO Region 120: Blizzards blanks Tasmanian Devils

COSTA MESA - Caleb Burgess scored the game’s only goal to lead the

Blizzard past the Tasmanian Devils, 1-0, in AYSO Region 120 Under-12 boys

playoffs semifinals contest Saturday.

The Blizzards’ defense was led by Garrett Marshall, Edgar Mendoza and

Luis Cozza, while Adrian Jimenez, Luis Andrade controlled the midfield.

Preventing the Devils’ offense to score was the solid play of Ramen

Contreras, Mike Mantyla, Josh Knauer, Nick Juarez, Ryan Pfautz, Eric

Seagondollar, Nick Urbaniec, German Higadera and goalie Rory Folsom.

In other Under-12 boys action:

Nighthawks 3, Team USA 1 - Garrett McMasters scored all three goals to

lead the Nighthawks.

Also playing well for the Nighthawks were Ernesto Castaneda, Eddy Collin,

Josh Sepeda, Kenneth Zich and goalie Daniel Freeman.

William Briseno had the lone goal for Team USA, with teammates Andrew

West, Christian Medina, Zach Wagner, Cody Waldron and Jonathan Howse

providing solid all-around play.

In Under-10 girls action: Killer Mermaids 2, Dynamites 1 - Sara Braunsdorf scored the tying goal

late in the third quarter and later won the game with a sudden-death goal

in overtime for the Mermaids.

Other top players for the Mermaids were Lucey Lozano, Carina Merida, Ayla

Medina, Ashleigh Mestas and Abby Schaefer.

Firecrackers 3, Purple Panthers 1 - Ashley Silletto scored two goals and

Jennifer Whittaker added a third to lead the Firecrackers to victory.

Sarah Barr, Olivia Schow and Kristen Gilligan did a solid job of

controlling the midfield, while Jane Messersmith was strong in goal for

the Firecrackers.

In Under-8 action:

For the Pink Panthers in their game against the Pink Penguins, Brittany

Grimmett scored two goals, and Amanda Watson had one goal ... Kate

Lohrstorfer was the difference on offense, wile Makenna Sanislo, Natalie

Seckel, Annie Daw, Morgan Pautsch, Amanda Watson, Jenna Hurty and Avery

Ingram led the defense.

In the Rockets’ game against the Patriots, Matt Viles scored two goals,

while Andrew Roth added a third ... Angel Beas was solid in goal for the

Rockets.

For the Fireballs in their matchup with Green Balls of Fire, Derek Lecot

scored with an assist from Brandon Carr, while Austin Metzger, Alex

Stradwick, Leo Brown and Ryan George played a solid all-around game.
