Men’s basketball: OCC rallies to win

COSTA MESA - Duc Nguyen had 16 points, including three second-half
three pointers to lead Orange Coast College men’s basketball team to a
66-56 win in the Pirates’ season opener.
OCC, down 47-33 early in the second half, outscored the Olympians, 33-9,
the remainder of the game to pull out the win in Coach Mark Hill’s
coaching debut.
“I was a little nervous when the game started,” Hill said. “After that, I
was more worried about our poor shooting to start the game.”
Dave Elliott had 13 points and Chad Hagedorn added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates.
Dante Gamer had 18 points and Bryan Daniels added 16 for SD Mesa, who had
a scoreless drought of over seven minutes in the second half to allow the
Bucs to pull out the win.
OCC next plays Friday at Mira Costa. Game time is 7 p.m.
