With goalkeeper Mathew Sidhou turning in his best performance of

the season behind an unflinching back line, Poison, an AYSO Region 56

boys Under-12 soccer team, defeated the Hornets, 6-1, Monday night.

Two goals by Mark Cassidy and one by striker Luke McGarry gave Poison a

3-0 lead at the half, and Lonnie Watson added a fourth goal early in the

second half off a fierce drive.

After the Hornets pulled to within 4-1, McGarry’s twin brother, Joe, and

Matt Monaco each added single goals for the final margin of victory.

UNDER-16 DIVISION

Region 117 Places Second The Region 117 boys Under-16 team earned a second place postseason

finish, winning three matches before falling to Santa Ana, 4-2, in the

championship game.

Region 117 opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Region 117B behind

the scoring of Eric Levine, Ben Elton, and Ben Boyd. They followed that

triumph with a 5-2 decision over Region 56, with goals scored by Vatche

Tchekmedyian, Mike Nichols, Eric Barnes, and Levine.

In a semifinal match, Region 117 needed overtime to get past Region 143,

3-2, behind the play of Jeffrey Johnson, Kyle Haney, Kai Chen, Alex

Koller, Varton Gochian, and defensemen Eric Figarsky, Bryan Musselman,

Brandon Parks, Calib Hill, and goalie Shaun Voight.

UNDER-10 DIVISION

Tsunami 1, Scorpions 0

Kyle McDonnell’s second quarter goal off an Andrew Thomas assist, and the

play of goalies Brett Webber and Billy Sahagen paved the shutout victory

for Tsunami of Region 56

GIRLS

UNDER-14 DIVISION

Lightning 5, La Habra 1

Aubrie Fuette and Tori Hegler each scored twice and Shauna Brown added

another goal for the HB Lightning of Region 143. Janet Peterson and

Hilary Pohlman anchored the defense as the Lightning improved their

record to 8-0-1.
