Yves Bright won the Pro/Am Division championship for the second

time this year Sunday on the final weekend of competition at the 1999

Pro/Am Huntington Beach Surf Series.

Riding excellent waves with solid 6-8 foot faces at the southside of the

Huntington Beach Pier, Bright won the $1,000 prize by beating out Mike

Hoisington, Jeff Hurley, Nick Kovack, Chris Biata, and Ben Will in the

final.

The overall ratings points leader in the Pro/Am Division for the series,

however, was Huntington Beach’s Jeff Deffenbaugh. By winning the overall

title, Deffenbaugh collected round trip air faire to Cabo San Lucas, a

Freestyle watch, and a one-year membership to Gold’s Gym.

Other winners at Sunday’s competition: Boys Division: Chase Newson;

Junior’s Division: Justin Brescia; Men’s Division: Chad LaBass; Master’s

Division: Marcell Guinaldo; Women’s Division: Allison Arvizu; Longboard

Division: Mike Gillard.
