A 31-year-old Anaheim man died in a crash Monday night on the San Diego

Freeway by Fountain Valley.

John Randle Wiseman’s car flipped on the Warner Avenue onramp, California

Highway Patrol spokeswoman Denise Medina said.

He was not wearing a seat belt at the time, she said.

As the car spun around, Wiseman was thrown out of the passenger side

window and onto the southbound freeway lanes where he was struck by

several vehicles and killed, she said.

Head-on crash may have been caused by DUI

A driver who may have been drunk caused a head-on collision on the

Pacific Coast Highway Saturday night, police said.

At about 6 p.m., Christine Hager, 33, of Long Beach, drove her Toyota

Tercel over the median one mile south of Warner Avenue and hit a Saturn,

Huntington Beach Police Lt. Chuck Thomas said.

The Saturn’s driver, Daniel Williams, 25, of Huntington Beach broke his

arm and leg and injured his internal organs, Thomas said. Williams was

taken to UCI Medical Center.

Hager, also taken to UCI Medical Center, suffered a broken arm, leg,

dislocated hip, and injury to his liver, Thomas said.

A three-old passenger in the Saturn was also seriously hurt, he said.

Physicians at Western Medical Center are treating Zachary Williams of

Huntington Beach for a broken leg, dislocated hip and abrasions to the

forehead, he said.

Jaywalker sparks Warner Avenue crash

A car hit a pedestrian Sunday night causing a five-car collision in

Huntington Beach, police said.

At about 8 p.m., Heriberto Capistran, 25, of Huntington Beach, jaywalked

across Warner Avenue west of Oak Lane, Lt. Chuck Thomas said.

Capistran was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by Hao Troung, 21, of Santa

Ana, he said. Troung immediately stopped his car and so did the driver

behind him, Dawn Adams, 36, of Huntington Beach, he said. But three other

cars didn’t stop in time, causing a chain reaction of rear end

collisions, he said.

Capistran suffered serious head and body injuries and was transported to

UCI Medical Center, he said. Troung was not injured. Adams hurt her neck

and was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, he said.

The other drivers were Kenneth Picquette III, 21, and Stephanie Marcus,

24, both of Huntington Beach, and David Fries, 38, of Sunset Beach, he

said.

Fries sustained serious head injuries and is being treated at UCI Medical

Center, he said. The others sought medical treatment on their own, he

said.

Murder suspect may be extradited from Spain

A Spanish judge is expected to decide by next month whether to approve

extradition to the United States of a 28-year-old man charged with

attempting to murder two Huntington Beach residents at their home.

On Oct. 28, Spanish police apprehended Gonzalo Alfonso Cabero Feliciano

in Valencia, Spain, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Chuck Thomas said.

“This is the first time that we could recall that a suspect has been

arrested in Spain,” he said.

Feliciano was staying as a guest at the home of his friend, John Rogers,

34, and Rogers’ mother Mary Rogers, 72, at the 20000 block of Sandbar

Lane when he stabbed them with a knife after a brief argument in October

1998, he said.

The man immediately fled and had been at large, he said.

Police would not discuss the details of the argument saying that would

jeopardize the investigation.

If extradition is approved, Huntington Beach police detectives will pick

up Feliciano at a port in New York and take him back to Huntington Beach,

he said.

Michigan police on Monday arrested a 37-year-old man who allegedly beat

his mother, a Huntington Beach resident, to death two years ago.

Depending on whether extradition is approved for Michael Douglas Swoope,

Jr. within the next few months, detectives will fly to Michigan to

interview the suspect, Lt. Chuck Thomas said.

Police are still investigating the motive for the killing, he said.

In November 1997, Huntington Beach police responded to distress calls

from residents who had not seen Alberta Safford, 55, for several days,

Thomas said. They found her dead at her mobile home at the 7800 block of

Slater Ave, where she lived alone, he said. At the time of the incident,

Douglas Swoope, Jr. had been living in Hawthorne, he said.
