CdM advances easily
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High’s girls tennis team was
obviously too much for wild card team Victor Valley. The host Sea Kings
crushed the Jackrabbits, 18-0, outscoring them, 54-10, in games.
Anne Yelsey won all three of her sets without dropping a game. Nadia
Vaughan almost matched that feat, dropping one game against Victor
Valley’s No. 1 player, Amber Peterson, in a 6-1 win before winning her
other two sets, 6-0.
Sarah Bryan took over the No. 3 singles spot for the injured Kim Singer
and won each set, 6-2. And all three of CdM’s doubles teams had little,
if any, trouble, with each winning by the identical scores of 6-1, 6-0,
6-0.
“We looked really good today,” CdM Coach Andy Stewart said. “I think we
have a definite chance to go to the semifinals.”
CdM (15-5) will face (Ayala-El Rancho?) in the quarterfinals Saturday,
with a coin flip to determine the home team.
