NEWPORT BEACH -- Superagent Leigh Steinberg on Thursday announced a major

grant to the Anti-Defamation League to continue a nationwide leadership

training effort.

The $400,000 grant will support the continued expansion of the Steinberg

Leadership Institute, a program that engages future league leaders in

training workshops and sessions to hone their leadership skills.

“Leadership training is an essential aspect of any nonprofit

organization, but the funds aren’t always available to make the most of

it,” said Howard P. Berkowitz, the league’s national chairman.

Steinberg’s donation will enable the organization to fight anti-Semitism,

racism and other forms of prejudice, he said.

Steinberg, a Newport Beach resident, founded the Steinberg Leadership

Institute in 1995 with only 20 participants. Since then, the program has

expanded to provide training to 400 participants in 20 cities, including

San Francisco, Chicago, New York and San Diego.

Steinberg, who was the model for the movie “Jerry Maguire” and author of

“Winning with Integrity,” has several famous clients, including Troy

Aikman of the Dallas Cowboys, Drew Bledsoe of the New England Patriots,

Kordell Stewart of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former Los Angeles Dodger

Raul Mondesi.
