Tennis: Davenport dunks Stevenson

PHILADELPHIA - Newport Beach’s Lindsay Davenport, playing in her

first match since coming back from her time off the ATP Tour, defeated

Alexandra Stevenson, 6-2, 6-3, Wednesday in the second round of the

Advanta Championships.

Davenport, ranked No. 2 in the world behind Martina Hingis, dominated

early against the daughter of basketball legend Julius Erving, winning

the first five games of the first set and breaking Stevenson twice.

In the second set, after falling behind, 3-2, Davenport won the final

four games to close out the match.

Davenport will next face Julie Halard-Decguis of France in the third

round.
