The Marine View Mariners won three division titles and Vista View

captured one as the 1999 middle school volleyball season concluded with

the recent Ocean View School District 7/8 Volleyball Postseason

Championships held at Ocean View High.

Vista View captured the eighth-grade boys division championship,

finishing 5-1 overall. Josh Selle capped the Falcons’ title-drive with

five kills, while teammate Joey Jameson added two kills and a pair of

aces, and Chris Patterson came up with six assists to lead the way in a

15-13, 15-13 victory over Marine View in the division final.

The eighth-grade girls crown went to Marine View, which outlasted Vista

View in the tournament final, 15-9, 11-15, 15-11. Whitney Gaeta finished

with two aces, three kills, and four blocks, Jacy Congelliere had eight

assists, and Stacy Yudin added an ace to five digs to lead the Mariners.

Marine View also made it a sweep at the seventh-grade level, taking both

the boys and girls competition.

In the seventh-grade girls final, Maureen Holloway had four aces, Nikki

Freiborg had three kills, and Alexandra Jaspers added two kills and a

pair of blocks as the Mariners needed three games to subdue Vista View,

15-3, 10-15, 15-13.

Behind Patrick Murray’s five aces, Gabe Herrera’s two blocks and three

kills, Matt Molino’s six digs, and Ian Jones’ game-winning hit, Marine

View rallied to score a 7-15, 15-13, 15-9 victory over Mesa View in the

boys seventh-grade title match.
