Girls golf: CdM advances to CIF Finals
CHINO HILLS - Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor high schools
competed in the CIF Southern Section girls golf regionals Tuesday at Los
Serranos Golf Course’s South Course, par 74, with the Sea Kings finishing
tied for second overall with a team total of 268.
“It was a much better outcome than I imagined,” Coach Mike
Starkweather said. “I think we finally got the recognition we deserve.
We’ve played much better than we’ve been given credit for all year long.”
Taylor McCormick shot a 10-over-par, 84, Allison Schnauppner came in
with an 87 and Kristin McCoy a 97 for the Sea Kings, who tied with Villa
Park, 21 shots behind University High’s 247.
For the Sailors, they finished eighth at 283. Kelly Hunt had an 86,
Lindsay Galbraith a 94 and Shelly Roberts 103.
CdM advances to the CIF-SS Team Finals Monday at Temeku Hills in
Temecula.
McCormick and Schauppner from CdM as well as Hunt from Newport each
has advanced to the individual championships Tuesday at Mission Hills
Country Club in Palm Desert.
