CdM’s Hansen bound for Stanford

CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High senior Kevin Hansen, a
first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division III setter who has helped
lead the Sea Kings to section championship matches the last two seasons,
committed Tuesday to continue his volleyball career at Stanford
University.
The 6-foot-4 standout, who trained the last two summers with U.S.
national youth team, picked Stanford over UCLA and Long Beach State. He
will sign a national letter of intent Wednesday, the first day of the
signing period.
“The academics are far above other schools, I like the players and I get
along with the coach (Ruben Nieves),” said Hansen, who carries a 4.0 GPA
at CdM.
Hansen was also All-Sea View League and All-Newport-Mesa District as a
junior when CdM won the CIF Division III title. They lost in the Division
I title match to Newport Harbor last spring.
Hansen is also a standout basketball player for the Sea Kings. He was
second-team All-CIF in Division III after helping the Sea Kings to the
CIF Division III-A title game at the Arrowhead Pond. He was also
all-league and all-district in his first varsity basketball campaign.
He will concentrate on volleyball, however, at Stanford, where he will
team with Newport Harbor senior Billy Clayton, who committed Friday.
