De Murl Tosh moved from Kansas to Costa Mesa in 1953 and opened a flower

shop on Newport Boulevard. Throughout the decades, she was an important

force in helping local culture to blossom.

Tosh was a patron of the Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse, a director of the

Friends of the Library and a member of the Costa Mesa Historical Society.

She also created the first scholarship for the Girls’ Club of the Harbor

Area and was a charter member of the Costa Mesa Art League. The Costa
