squeaker over Woodbridge. Josh Walz throws a 65-yard touchdown to Myles

Davis in the second quarter for the only touchdown in the game.

Costa Mesa’s football team loses out on a Pacific Coast League title with

a 27-14 loss to Laguna Hills. Brian Reeves scores the only touchdowns for

the Mustangs.

CdM’s boys water polo team blasts Lakewood, 28-4, in the first round of

the CIF Division I playoff. James Palda scores six goals to lead the Sea

Kings.

Not to be outdone, Costa Mesa’s boys water polo team destroys Pacifica,

31-3, in the first round of the CIF Division II playoff. Ryan Dandy’s six

goals leads the Mustangs.

CdM’s girls tennis team barely advances in the CIF Division I playoffs

with a 10-8 win over Westlake. Jennifer Landry and Erica Nelson wins the

last set of the day to give the Sea Kings the victory.

Newport Harbor’s girls volleyball team easily advances in the CIF

Division I playoffs. Misty May’s 27 kills is high in the match. Melissa

Schutz, with 11 kills, and Jenny Hecker, with 48 assists, also

contributes for the Sailors.

Orange Coast College’s Erin Remy finishes second in the Orange Empire

Conference womens cross county championship.

OCC’s mens soccer team defeats Golden West, 2-0, behind goals from

Michael McCabe and Patrick Ferry.

OCC’s womens soccer team beats Palomar, 3-1. Danae Fielder scores twice

for the Pirates.

Ten years agoNewport Harbor’s football team squeaks out an 8-7 victory

over CdM. Todd Kehrli scores first for CdM, but Steve Scheck runs for a

touchdown in the second half, and Wayne Fraser’s two-point conversion run

is the difference in the game.

Estancia’s football team wraps up an undefeated season with a 10-0

shutout of Saddleback. Josh Wojtkiewicz scores the lone touchdown and the

Eagles’ defense records their sixth shutout of the year.

CdM’s girls volleyball team advances in the CIF playoffs with a 15-7,

15-10, 15-10 sweep of Irvine. Tracy Schriber has 22 kills and 11 digs for

the Sea Kings.

Estancia’s girls tennis team surprises Edison in the CIF playoff with a

12-6 victory. Dina Birch wins all three sets without dropping a game, and

Shannon Curren wins two sets for the Eagles.

with a 19-4 win over Los Alamitos. Kyle Kofford and Craig Montz spark an

early Sailors’ lead.

CdM’s boys water polo team also advances in the playoff with a 20-2

pounding of Buena Park. Brandon Howald scores five goals for the Sea

Kings.

OCC’s women’s soccer team clinches at least a tie for the Orange Empire

Conference title with a 6-0 blowout of Cypress. Six different players

score for the Pirates.

OCC’s men’s basketball team opens the season with an 80-62 win over

Southwestern. Chip Hanlon scores 22 points and five assists to lead the

Pirates.
