Newport Beach resident and state Board of Education member Marian

Bergeson has been named to presidential hopeful George W. Bush’s

California steering committee.

Bergeson was one of five Republicans from Orange County chosen to serve

on the 64-member committee.

Bergeson said as part of the committee she will support the campaign and

be a resource of information.

“Of course my area of expertise will be education,” she said.

The job will also include monthly meetings and conference calls.

Bergeson, who has served in public-service positions from the

Newport-Mesa Unified School District to the state Senate, said she also

was on the steering committee for former President George Bush’s

campaigns.
