Rowing: NAC to host local race
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Aquatic Center will host the annual
Newport Autumn Rowing Festival this weekend for both collegiate and high
school competitors.
The annual meet will attract schools from all over the country,
including such schools as Stanford, USC, Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, UCSD,
University of Washington, Oregon State among others.
This year’s races will feature 8-boats and singles for both men’s and
women’s competition.
In addition to the college teams, junior rowing clubs, including the
NAC Junior Crew will enter varsity and novice teams to compete.
Students from Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar high schools, as well
as Santa Margarita, Mater Dei and other Orange County schools will
compete against teams from the Bay Area and all over the west coast.
The race course begins just north of the Lido Bridge, travels around
Lido Island, then continues under the Pacific Coast Highway bridge to the
finish line near the NAC facility, across the Back Bay Channel from the
Newport Dunes.
