Don’t pass on pancake breakfast for football boosters
The Football Booster’s Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held this year on
Nov. 13, from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at Lake Park on Main Street. Tickets are $3
and can be purchased that day. Tickets are also available through the
high school activities office and at football games. The event will
feature a drawing for a 19-inch color television and dinners at the Hard
Rock Cafe, Chicago Ribs and El Torito Grill. The club welcomes donations

Autumn auction for Hilltop
Hilltop Preschool is having an Autumn auction on Nov. 16 from 6-9 p.m. at
the Greenbook Community Center, 18222 Santa Joanana St., Fountain Valley.
A live auction, a silent auction, and a balloon bust will be featured.

Golden scholars on the Golden State
Huntington Beach City School District eighth-graders surpassed state
averages on the 1998-99 Golden State Examination given to first year
algebra students statewide. Overall, 86.6% of the district’s
eighth-graders earned recognition, honors and high honors levels on the
test. State averages were 27.4%. At Sowers Middle School, 100% of
students performed at that level. At Dwyer Middle School, 62.1% earned
the same distinction. Over 130 Huntington Beach City School District
eighth-graders took the test last year.
Time for kids to math off
Zany Brainy kids game store is starting a 24-game Math Club beginning
Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Children ages 8 to 10 are invited to participate and
compete with other kids their own age. Zany Brainy will also have a
preschool craft time every Monday at 10:30 a.m. The crafts are designed
to build children’s motor skills and experience colors, shapes, textures
and more through craft projects.
