Men’s soccer: Pirates, Cypress duke it out
COSTA MESA - Tuesday’s Orange Empire Conference matchup between
Orange Coast College and Cypress was stopped with about five minutes
remaining due to a bench-clearing brawl between the two teams.
With the scored tied at 2-2, both teams went at it and, according to
an OCC press release, it was more than just words and shoves.
Pirates goalkeeper Carlos Loza suffered a broken nose and defender Ken
Yanagimachi suffered a cut below his right eye in the brawl, which lasted
about a minute.
OCC’s campus police arrived and questioned several players, coaches
and spectators from both sides. No charges were filed and no arrests were
made.
As far as the game goes, OCC scored on goals from Mike Carvin in the
25th minute and John Gump in the 79th minute. Loza had five saves for the
Bucs (3-13-4, 2-6-3 in conference).
Matt Beneda and Adriano Lima had goals for Cypress (1-14-1, 0-9-1).
The Pirates wrap up their season at home against Golden West College
Friday at 3 p.m.
