Estancia boys win, girls split
ORANGE - Estancia High freshman Humberto Rojas won the boys race to
lead the Eagles to a 24-33 Pacific Coast League boys cross country
victory over Laguna Beach Thursday at Irvine Park.
The Estancia girls split their PCL double dual meet, topping Laguna
Beach, 21-34, but falling to Northwood, 20-36.
Rojas completed the three-mile course in 16:40, 17 seconds faster than
his nearest competitor. Mike Casillas (17:14), Danny Vargas (17:28) and
Luis Segoviano (17:30) were fourth-sixth, respectively for the Eagles,
who improved to 3-1 heading into the Nov. 5 league finals at the same
venue.
Estancia junior Liz Huipe (second in 19:49) was the top finisher for the
girls, but Coach Charlie Appell credited senior Katelyn Aronson (13th in
22:37) for holding off several runners to help the Eagles defeat the
Artists. The Eagles’ girls are 2-3 in league.
Northwood, which opened this fall, does not yet compete at the boys
varsity level.
