Sailors in scoreless tie
COSTA MESA - The Newport Harbor High field hockey team dominated
visiting Westminster, but couldn’t put a ball in the net, as the Sailors
settled for a 0-0 tie Thursday in the Sunset League finale at the Harper
Community Center.
The tie allows Coach Sharon Wolfe’s squad (8-2-4) to claim at least a
two-way tie for second place in league. Huntington Beach is deadlocked
with the Sailors and Marina could join the logjam if the Vikings defeated
Glendora Thursday.
The postseason tournament begins Tuesday and Wolfe hopes to learn the
Sailors’ first-round opponent today.
Wolfe credited the strong play of junior Elizabeth Evans for helping the
hosts outshoot the Lions, 10-0, Thursday.
