Applications will be accepted for the next Orange County Grand Jury term

starting Monday.

The board comprises 19 residents who serve a one-year period to

investigate the operations of county government. The term will begin on

July 1, 2000, but the application process will continue through Jan. 31.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a county

resident for at least one year. Names are selected by random drawing from

those nominated by a group of Superior Court judges.

Prior to the nomination, each applicant is interviewed by a judge and the

county marshal conducts a background investigation.

Grand jurors must be available five days a week. Some evening and weekend

hours may be required, as well. Also of note, applicants cannot be active

in a political campaign during service on the grand jury.

Grand jurors will receive a stipend of $25 per day, not to exceed $125

per week. They also may be paid for auto mileage to and from home.

Applications may be obtained at the Jury Commissioner’s Office, Room

A-100, at the main courthouse, 700 Civic Center Drive West, in Santa Ana.
