Girls tennis: Sailors claim league title
IRVINE - Strong doubles play allowed Newport Harbor girls’ tennis
team to clinch the Sea View League title with a 12-6 win over host
Woodbridge.
“I was real proud of the girls,” Coach Fletcher Olson said. “It was
great to see them come through like we did today.”
Two doubles teams swept their sets for the Sailors (14-1, 7-0 in
league).
Jenny Myer and Kristen Case improved their team record to a perfect
12-0 with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 sweep, while Sarah Barker and Allison Schneider
also swept, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
On the singles side, despite losing her first set of the year, Natalie
Braverman still managed to win two of three sets, as did Audra Adams for
Newport Harbor.
The Sailors, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I will wrap
up league play Monday when they host Aliso Niguel at 3 p.m.

Hockicko, 6-3; Adams (NH) lost 3-6, won 6-3, 6-3; Godbey (NH) lost 0-6,
0-6, 2-6.
Doubles: Myer-Case (NH) def. Rye-Hustedt, 6-1, def. Fezeli-Kushner,
6-2, def. Besharati-Roth, 6-1; Hawkins-Collopy (NH) won 6-1, 6-3, lost
5-7; Barker-Schneider (NH) won 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
