MILLENNIUM MOMENT
Thomas J. Nevin came to the United States from Ireland in 1930 and served
for some time as a hospital chaplain in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
In 1947 he was appointed pastor of the newly formed St. Joachim Parish.
At that time, the parish didn’t have a building in which to worship, but
Nevin oversaw the move of a chapel building from the Santa Ana Army Air
Base. As the parish grew rapidly, Nevin encouraged it to create civic
groups and engage in outreach efforts, laying the foundation for the
close ties St. Joachim’s has to the Costa Mesa community today.
Monsignor Nevin passed away in 1989.
MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major
contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
