Boys water polo: Sailors top Foothill

NEWPORT BEACH - In a battle of two of the top teams in Orange

County, Newport Harbor High used a strong second and third quarters to

knock off visiting Foothill, 7-4, in nonleague boys water polo Friday.

Robert Weiner had four goals, Peter Belden had two goals and Ryan Cook

added another goal for the Sailors, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern

Section, Division I.

Foothill, ranked No. 3 in Division I, kept the Sailors off the

scoreboard, while taking a 1-0 lead, before Newport scored three goals in

the second and third quarters to take command of the match.

Tim Birdsong had eight saves for the Sailors, while Belden and Cook

each had two assists each.
