AYSO Region 57: Smurfs outscore Patriots
CORONA DEL MAR - The Smurfs, an AYSO Region 57 Division 4 soccer
team had their highest offensive output of the season to knock off the
Patriots, 8-3, Saturday.
Christian Elliott had three goals, Geoffrey Grant had two goals and
single tallies were contributed by Brian Hultman, Rob Knapp and Matt
Manni.
The defense for the Smurfs, led by Brent Greech, Mike Lanni and Eric
Nelson, shut down the Patriots late in the the game.
Julian Marisco had two goals and Chris Horton had one goal for the
Patriots.
In other Division 4 action:
Newport United 3, The Jamaicans 0 - After losing their first two games
of the season, the United have managed to win three games in a row.
Tommy Hutchison, Ryan Letts and Matt Gratzinger each scored for the
United.
For the Jamaicans, solid play was turned in by Andrew Dialynas, Scotty
Smith and Jason Poulson.
In boys Division 5 action:
Blue Bombers 2, Thunderbolts 1 - Goals by Mitchell Williams and Peter
Yould gave the Blue Bombers the win.
Goalie Nick Freeman, along with keeping the game close with numerous
saves, also assisted on Yould’s goal, which proved to be the game-winner.
Keeping the defense tough for the Blue Bombers were David Schwartz and
Brian Yasoukochi.
In girls Division 3 action:
Flash 2, Wipeout 2 - Priscilla Swenson had two goals for the Flash,
while Elizabeth Joyo had two goals for the Wipeout.
Natalie Sims, Meredith Hultman and Chelsea Guibord helped lead the
Flash’s offense, while goalie Lauren Nurnberger led the Wipeout’s
defense.
