Newport man guilty in child support case

A deadbeat dad, who failed to support his two children and his ex-wife

for nearly 10 years, pleaded guilty for his inaction in a San Diego

courtroom earlier this week.

David Scott Anderson, 47, of Newport Beach, will be sentenced on Nov. 30

for skipping out on more than $337,000 of spousal and child support

payments. Anderson could serve jail time for his offenses, authorities

said.

Anderson didn’t make payments to support his children, who are now 17 and

21, and his ex-wife, who live north of San Diego.

The couple divorced in 1988. A year later, Anderson was ordered by the

court to pay $550 per month for his children and another $1,500 to his

ex-wife.

The money continued to accumulate while Anderson reportedly made small,

incremental payments. He was arrested in April outside his Newport Beach

home after he sent a $100 check to his ex-wife.

Anderson restarted his payments with his Tuesday court appearance by

giving $900 to the plaintiffs, prosecutors said.
