ISSUE: District goals and priorities

ACTION: Approved, 7-0

SUMMARY: District officials have been working for the last year to draft

a long-term improvement plan for the district.

Many of the goals they came up with, however, were somewhat lofty and so

this fall, board members and district officials labored to find concrete

ways to put those goals into place.

They decided that some of the goals, such as reading and basic skills,

are urgent. Others, such as emphasizing art, won’t need to be met until

next year.

All goals, however, now have attached to them concrete steps that

teachers, district officials and parents can take to help students learn.
