SAT Results top national average
The class of 1999 at Huntington Beach Union High School district scored
significantly higher on college admission tests than their state and
national peers.
Huntington Beach high school graduates scored an average of 1,071 on the
SAT. The national average was 1,016 and the state average 1,011.
Fountain Valley High School had the highest average SAT score at 1,103;
the lowest in the district was Westminster High School at an average of
976.
Edison High School had the highest percentage of its graduates take
college entrance exams: 80 percent. Westminster was the lowest in the
district, with only 46 percent.
Coastline Graduate Honored
The Community College League of California recently announced that
Coastline Community College graduate Tony Aguilar will be awarded the
prestigious California Community College Distinguished alumni Award for
1999 at its annual convention in San Francisco this fall.
Aguilar, who works for Southern California Edison, said his studies at
Coastline Community College greatly affected his life. “Coastline had a
major impact on my life and helped me realize I could accomplish new
heights in education, a formula which has also led me to many personal
success.”
Aguilar is a member of the Coastline College Foundation Board and hopes
to assist the institution to develop and fund other programs, which will
help students.
Donations to Fountain Valley District
Fountain Valley School District has recently received a variety of gifts
from generous donors. MacPherson Toyota made a cash donation of $50 to be
used for library upkeep. MacPherson Chevrolet made a $50 donation to
Hisamatsu Tamura Elementary school, $100 to Roch Courreges and $50 to
Isojiro Oka for a variety of uses.
The Orange County Teacher’s Federal Credit Union also gave the district a
$75 donation.
Surf City grad shines at Columbia
Columbia University in New York City recently announced its spring 1999
Deans List, which included Huntington Beach graduate Brian Brazier. The
academic honor is reserved to those who have a 3.33 grade point average.
