Meyers ascends to top of UMass list
Former Huntington Beach High standout Jill Meyers continued her
assault on the University of Massachusetts women’s volleyball record book
last weekend by becoming the school’s all-time block leader.
An All-CIF performer for Huntington Beach, Meyers set the new UMass mark
in a three-game sweep Friday against Duquesne. The senior middle blocker
now has 342 career blocks, and also tallied her 1,000th career dig in a
3-1 win over Fairfield.
Meyers, who currently is the team leader on the season in Kills (226),
and is second in both digs (146) and blocks (32), is the fourth player in
UMass history to record both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
Meyers joined another Huntington Beach athlete, Kari Hogancamp, who
earned All-CIF status while at Edison High, in the 1,000 digs club.
Hogancamp continued her impressive senior campaign by posting her 10th
double-double of the season in the Duquesne match with 10 kills and 16
digs. Hogancamp is also the team-leader this season in digs (245) and
second to Meyers in kills (160).
