Poison beats Flaming Cobras in battle of unbeatens

Both Poison and the Flaming Cobras put their unbeaten records on

the line last weekend, and it was Poison, an AYSO boys Under-12 team,

that emerged with a 2-1 victory.

Poison took a 2-0 halftime lead on the strength of goals by Kyle

Goodman and Joe McGarry, but it was the dominating play at midfield by

Mark Cassidy, Lonnie Watson, and Matt Monaco that helped stake Poison to

its advantage at the intermission.

Goodman scored first on a spectacular 25-yard shot and minutes

later, McGarry picked up the ball just past the half-way line, maneuvered

his way down the left flank, side-stepped the challenges of a couple of

Flaming Cobras, and clipped a left-foot drive into the roof of the net.

The Flaming Cobras struck back with a single goal in the third

quarter and continued to attack the Poison goal, but goalkeeper Matthew

Sidhoum held on for the victory.
