Jr. Pee Wee Dolphins rout Corona
With its rushing game in high gear and a defense that was nothing
short of relentless, the Huntington Beach Dolphins routed the host Corona
Panthers, 51-0, in Jr. All-American Football action Saturday.
Four different Dolphins figured in an offensive ground attack that
amassed 271 yards.
Logan Martina finished the day with 172 yards and three touchdowns
on 19 carries, and opened the game’s scoring with a one-yard plunge
following a Corona fumble.
Willie Fiscus scored on a pair of touchdown runs, Justin Dawson
ran for 33 yards and two scored on six carries, and Ceseare Nieto
scampered 47 yards for another score on his only carry of the game.
The Dolphin defense was equally as impressive as the team’s
offense as it held the Panthers to just 20 yards of total offense.
The defensive line, led by Daniel Nelson, spent most of the day in
the Panther backfield as Adisa Lewis recorded three tackles for loss,
Victor Ordonez recovered a fumble on the Corona two-yard line to set up
Martina’s first score, and Antonio Small, Justin Garcia, and Tyler
Borkovetz also helped keep the Panther defense out of sync.
‘I saw a lot of players on Corona who were very athletic, but
their team was hurt by a few mistakes,’ Huntington Beach Coach Dave Small
said. ‘If the ball had bounced differently on a couple of plays, then the
outcome could have been very different.
‘It’s rare for a team to score over 50 points with only 300 yards
of offense, but I give Corona credit for playing through their mistakes.
That team will be much improved as the season goes on.’
On Saturday, the 3-1 Dolphins return home to face the
league-leading South Orange County Patriots (4-0) in an 11 a.m. showdown at Ocean View High.
