Triple crown of skateboarding
Skateboarding championship draws crowds to watch the pros in Surf
City.
The final stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding, the Vans/Hard
Rock Cafe World Championships of Skateboarding presented by G-Shock and
Mountain Dew, took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, just south of the
pier in Huntington Beach. In addition to the 72-foot-wide vert ramp and
15,000-square-foot street course at this year’s event, a special bowl
contest was added in the 65-foot-long “Soul Bowl.” Special attractions
included a newly added Pro and Masters bowl contest. A 2,400-square-foot
public street course gave spectators a chance to emulate their favorite
athlete’s tricks, and a concert was held, with Matt Hensley’s Flogging
Molly and the Suicide Machines.
