The Fountain Valley Jaguar defense turned up the heat on the

Newport Mesa Seahawks Saturday, and the result led to a 30-0 Junior

All-American Football Jr. Midget Division victory at Fountain Valley

High.

The hard-hitting Jaguar defense came up with four turnovers with

two fumble recoveries and a pair of interceptions, both interceptions

being returned for touchdowns.

Ray Andong led Fountain Valley (2-0-1) with 11 tackles and

returned one of the interceptions 56 yards for a score. Bryan Reihm was

next with eight tackles, Bob Silva returned an interception 18 yards for

another touchdowns, and both Jeff Millard and Phillip Sommer each had a

fumble recovery.

Fountain Valley’s defense limited Newport Mesa to just 28 yards

rushing and 115 yards total offense.

Quarterback Kyle Feiler rushed for 89 yards and passed for 86 more

as the Jaguar finished with 268 yards of offense.

The Jaguar offense exploded for 260 yards behind the blocking of

Andy Palacios, Ian McNicol, Cody Grant, and Leon Robb, who cleared the

way for touchdown runs by Dylon Conley, Chad Palsulich, Danny Dion, and

Chris Martinez.

The Jaguar defense was also dominant as Martinez recorded a fumble

recovery and led the team in tackles with six. Palacios, the team’s

captain, controlled the middle throughout the game and caused two

fumbles.

Other defensive standouts included Scott Baker, Scott Rychlik, and

Loren Robb, who caused a fumble in the third quarter.

Mission Viejo 20, Fountain Valley 6

Despite the setback, the Fountain Valley defense turned in a

strong performance against a visiting Mission Viejo squad that had scored

more than 40 points in its first two games.

Chris Lee caused a fumble that Garrett Leon scooped up and

returned for 10 yards, and the Jaguar defense only allowed the Cowboys

one long, sustained scoring drive during the entire game.

Receiver Daniel Rodriguez scored on a pass from Jimmy Leeman to

account for the Fountain Valley scoring.

JR. PEE WEE DIVISION

South Orange Co. 46, Fountain Valley 0

The Teal Jaguars, a first-year expansion team, held the powerful

Patriots (3-0) to just 13 points at the half, thanks to a defense that

stopped one potential scoring drive and recovered a fumble on another

South Orange County possession.

Fountain Valley (0-3) will host the Mission Viejo Cowboys Saturday

(1 p.m.) at Fountain Valley High.
