Summary: The board approved a resolution applying for $3,873,960 from the
Class Size Reduction Program for 238 classes and 4,590 students for
1999-2000.
The Class Size Reduction Program was established in 1996-1997 to improve
education for kindergarten through third grade. About $1.5 billion is
appropriated to the superintendent of public instruction to be given to
school districts as incentive money to implement a student-teacher ration
of 20-1. The program is administered by the California Department of
Education and is accepting applications for the current year.
Applications must be certified through a school district’s local
governing board and postmarked by Oct. 1, 1999. The district has
completed the application for class size reduction in grades those
grades, stating that the program has been implemented for 1999-2000.
