ISSUE: Cost-sharing agreement with Newport Center property owners.

ACTION: Approved 5 to 0

SUMMARY: The agreement would allow the sharing of planning and

Environmental Impact Report costs among four of the center’s property

owners, the Irvine Co., Pacific Life, California State Teachers

Retirement System and the Newport Beach Country Club.

Payments of the consulting costs for general plan amendments will be

made in three installments, beginning Friday, when half the estimated

$500,000 cost is to be paid. The second payment is due Dec. 15 and the

A notice of the environmental report already was publicized, and a

Also, the city will contribute staff time on the project without

charging the typical application fees.
