OCC runner-up in tournament
CONCORD - The Orange Coast College women’s water polo team, ranked
No. 3 in Southern California and No. 3 in the state, defeated the top
three ranked teams from Northern California en route to a runner-up
finish at the Diablo Valley Tournament, completed Sunday at Diablo Valley
College.
Golden West, ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated the Pirates, 11-3, in
the title match, after OCC earned an 8-6 semifinal triumph over Merced.
OCC sophomores Narrissa Reidenbaugh and Laura Blair had three goals in
the final two games, while Newport Harbor High product Erin Kennedy
collected 11 saves.
OCC (8-2) has lost only to Golden West, the defending state champion,
this season. The Pirates also defeated Northern California powers Modesto
and Diablo Valley in the tournament.
OCC returns to action Wednesday, hosting nonconference foe San Diego
Mesa.
