Vanguard University was a 7-0 winner at United States International

University Saturday in men’s soccer, as Diego Goni recorded a career-high

four goals and two assists. Matthew Palmer added two goals and two

assists to help the Lions win their fourth in a row and improve to 4-2

... the women’s soccer team was a 2-0 winner against The Master’s on the

winner’s campus Saturday. Annie Jacobs and Alexis Newbold scored for

Vanguard U., which won its third straight by nonconference game shutout.

Goalie Robin Landauer had four saves ... the women’s volleyball team

split two matches, handling visiting Embry Riddle Aeronautical University

on Friday, 15-2, 13-15, 13-15, 15-11, 15-8, but falling to host Biola in

Golden State Athletic Conference play Saturday, 16-14, 15-1, 15-7. Kristy

Rostawicki served the last seven points of the fifth game to lead VU to

its victory over Embry Riddle. Megan Godfrey led the way with 23 kills.

Joelle Mockabee (15) and Noelle Sturgil (12) contributed significantly as

VU improved to 8-7. Biola rallied from a 14-9 deficit in the first set

with seven straight winners, then ran off 12 straight in the second set

to take total command Saturday.
