COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College’s men and women ran the

competition right off the course Saturday at the Orange Coast Cross

Country Invitational at Fairview Park.

Zoila Gomez led the way in the women’s division with a 19:13 effort.

Bernice Carbajal was second in 19:56, with Sinfo Orozco eighth in the

100-plus field. Stepping up with key efforts were Elsa Ortega, Kimberly

Lacher, Joanna Williams and Marie Valencia, providing OCC with a 29-point

cushion over runner-up Mt. San Antonio.

The OCC men won with a 11-point edge over runner-up Mt. SAC, keyed by

Juan Sanchez (20:55, seventh), Chris Monachelli (21:05, ninth), Manuel

Orozco (12:17, 13th), Robert Jones (21:25, 17th) and Alberto Munoz

(21:41, 23rd) in the 6,400-meter course.
