AYSO Region 120: Rush win Labor Day Tournament
COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa Rush, a girls-under-12 team from AYSO Region 120, won four games in a row to win the 1999 Brian McMillan
Invitational Tournament over Labor Day Weekend.
The final scores of the games were 3-2, 3-0, 2-0 and 2-1 against teams
from Newport Beach, Pasadena, Tustin and Fountain Valley.
Two of the Rush’s wins came by way of shutout, led by goalies Shannon
Arnold, Kindra Bailey, Kristin Ciralli and Kelly Wherry.
The Rush’s goals were scored by Arnold, Alicia Smith, Elizabeth
Greyshock, Mahea Hookano, Jenny Sarris and Amanda Loera.
Strong defense was provided by Melanie Dorsman, Bethany Vergara and
Janele Shockley.
In other Region 120 action:
Team USA 3, Tidal Wave 0 - In boys-under-12 action, goals were scored
by Eric West, Brian Cortez-Herrara and William Brisno.
The goals were set on the solid offensive play from Brian Perez,
Andrew West, Cody Waldron, Kyle Worel and Nick Ippolito.
Ippolito and Jonathan Howse were each solid at goal as well.
Dynamite 0, Wildcats 0 - In girls-under-10 action, both teams were
dominant on defense in the scoreless tie.
Brook Urmson, Samantha Strodel and Lauren Nordstron led the Wildcats’
defense, while Kristina Roche and “T” Pfeifer were solid on offense.
Firecrackers 5, Goldrushers 0 - Jennifer Whitaker and Megan Kipp each
scored two goals to lead the Firecrackers in girls-under-10 soccer.
Holding the Goldrushers off the scoreboard wre Brennan McVeigh, Ashley
Silletto and Lauren Kipp.
Blue Lightning 4, Red Bombers 2 - In boys-under-10 action, after falling behind, 2-0, the Red Bombers’ Trevor McGuff scored twice to tie
the game by halftime, only to have the Blue Lightning score twice more in
the second half.
Despite the loss, Francisco Moreno, Adam Seagondollar, Gregory Vinson,
Anthony Arellano, Luis Labrado and Josh Gonzales played well on both
sides of the field.
On defense, Renny Martinez, Matthew Hillberg, Juan Soto and Peter
Schreyer broke up numerous Blue Lightning drives, while goalies Nicholas
Vinson and Dontay Lesser stopped numerous shots.
Alleygators 3, Hornets 1 - Cody Spoulos scored off an assist from Adam
Gardner.
Spoulos scored again, this time unassisted, and Brian Cozza closed out
the Alleygators’ scoring with a third-quarter goal.
Rual Munoz scored the lone goal for the Hornets.
Rockets 7, Sharks 0 - In boys-under-8 action, Jonathan Knauer scored
his first goal of the season for the Rockets.
Andrew Roth, Angel Beas and Matt Viles also scored goals for the
Rockets, while goalies Knauer and Aaron King kept the Sharks off the
scoreboard.
